IRMH is governed by a 13-member board of directors and operates under a lease with the Indian River County Hospital District, a seven-member publicly elected board of trustees. In addition to the hospital, the campus includes separate buildings which house the Indian River Regional Cancer Center, The Center for Emotional and Behavioral Health and a human services building.

IRMH is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and is certified and is licensed by the US Department of Health and Human Services and the Florida Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services. It has all of the up-to-date medical equipment, technology and services found in large, modern, well-run hospitals

The hospital employees more than 1,200 people, has 600 volunteer Auxilians, and has more than 175 physicians on staff, who practice in all major specialties.
